FCC: Buffy Not Indecent
Advocate.com reports that the FCC on Monday rejected indecency complaints against both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Will & Grace. The decision was 5-0.
The complaint against the Buffy episode Smashed, broadcast on UPN Washington D.C. affiliate WDCA on November 20, 2001 had been filed by the Parents Television Council, who objected to Buffy and Spike fighting prior to having sex.
The FCC's conclusion:
Americans for Decency complained about the Will & Grace episode broadcast on Fox Phoenix affiliate KSAZ on March 31, 2003, complaining that a two women (a photographer and an author) kissed and then "dry humped."

The November 20, 2001 episode involves a scene depicting Buffy kissing and straddling Spike shortly after fighting with him. Based upon our review of the scene, we did not find that it is sufficiently graphic or explicit to be deemed indecent. Given the non-explicit nature of the scene, we cannot conclude that it was calculated to pander to, titillate or shock the audience. Consequently, we conclude that the material is not patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium.

Accordingly, we conclude that KSAZ did not violate the Commission’s indecency prohibition by airing the “Will and Grace” program on March 31, 2003.I couldn't find exactly which episode this was. It wasn't an original airdate. Perhaps it was Hocus Focus, with Glenn Close as the photographer? If anyone knows for sure, please leave a note in the Comments.
