Oral Argument Previews

I inquired of two friends how their moot court appellate argument went last night. Mine is not scheduled until Friday. Their experiences seem to have been similar in some ways, and very different in others. They both had very little time to present their actual argument, as most of their 15 minutes were taken up with intensive questioning from the judges.

However, one said that when it was over the judges were very nice in their critiques, so she came away "with a good taste in her mouth about the whole thing."

The other wanted to crawl under the desk and vomit.

My immediate response? A good taste beats the taste of vomit any day (I wonder why this hasn't been used as a marketing slogan?).

I think I'll continue my preparations with the vomit experience in mind, so I'll be very thorough, but then try to keep the good taste impression in mind when Friday comes, so I won't panic in anticipation and freeze in front of the panel.
