Minority Rights v. Majority Rule
Senator John Cornyn (R-Tex) on NPR's Talk of the Nation, about 10 minutes ago, in a discussion of eliminating the filibuster when it comes to judicial nominees:
|
This is not about protecting minority rights. This is about allowing the majority to govern.Yep. This isn't about the filibuster being specifically instituted to prevent a simple majority from being able to impose their policies at the expense of a minority. It's about allowing the present majority of Republicans to force through that very small number of judicial nominees to which so many Senators object that the supporters would not be able to muster a 2/3 majority show of support.
