Middlesex Fells, Reservoir Trail

Today I took on the 5.2 mile hilly loop known as the Reservoir Trail, at the Middlesex Fells Reservation. The north entrance is about a 6 minute drive from my house, and this was the first time I'd ventured in. I armed myself with the map from FellsBiker.com and set out. The trails are incredibly well-maintained and marked, with numerous options all color coded, and with the map it's easy to keep track of your progress. On the map, the Reservoir Trail is the orange one that loops around the three reservoirs on the west side of the reservation. Took 3 hours, 4 minutes. I'm feeling pretty good, although my right lower back is feeling a little compressed. Some stretching should take care of that.

There is also a designated mountain bike loop that takes you around the reservoir, and I saw several people out enjoying it, along with all the hikers and dogwalkers. For all the details, check out the photoset by clicking on the picture below. Remember to view each photo rather than using slideshow, so you'll get the commentary.

I think next time I'll try the longer Skyline Trail. That's the white one around the reservoirs on the map.

Avon Walk training update: This week I got in about 14-15 miles, much of it hilly hiking, and I'm at 59% of my required fund-raising. The team (my sisters and I) are at 77% of our combined fund-raising. Four weeks left before the Boston two-day walk! Care to help us to our goal?
