Boston Legal + Candice Bergen = Even Better

The Girl and I have been enjoying Boston Legal, which we began watching on the advice of The Guyfriend. It's a spin-off of both Ally McBeal and The Practice, based on William Shatner's appearance on both as larger than life attorney Denny Crane, plus James Spader's character Alan Shore. Shatner and Spader's characters evolved and became two of the core personalities on Boston Legal, which in what I'm sure is no surprise, is about a law firm in Boston.

Other cast members include Monica Potter and Rene Auberjonois (a regular guest, slated for 9 episodes). If you're anything like me, you'll remember Auberjonois as Odo from DS9 (and also as Clayton Endicott on Benson). The show's well-written, funny, and has lots of legal storylines, references and jokes that I feel I enjoy even more being a law student.

But now I read that Candice Bergen will be joining the cast!!!!!! I just love Candice Bergen. Murphy Brown had to have been one of the best shows in the history of sitcoms. I do disagree with the AP article's description of that show as having been "about a single mom in the television news business." It was about a woman who had made a succesful career in the news business, and who after several seasons also became a single mom (much to Dan Quayle's dismay).

And how about her turns with Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality and with Gwyneth Paltrow in View From the Top? Comedy gold.

Anyway, I can't wait. She'll be playing Shirley Schmidt, one of the firm's founding partners, and will begin appearing on January 9. Yahoo!
