Cholesterol Woes

I just looked up my lab results online from my recent physical. Looks like the creeping cholesterol has finally struck. My readings for cholesterol and LDL were displayed on the page in red, with a little star next to them, as reproduced below.

Relevant data:
  • Cholesterol: 223* (borderline high risk)
  • LDL: 135* (borderline high)
  • HDL: 62 (above average - this is the "good cholesterol")
  • Cholesterol/HDL ratio: 3.6 (nearly optimal - 3.5 is optimal)
  • Triglycerides: 129 (normal)
The descriptors next following the numbers are taken from the American Heart Association's cholesterol level info page. Now I have another reason I need to shed these law school pounds. Oh yeah, and quit the potato chips and occasional onion rings. And eggnog lattes. Crap.

The Girl, meanwhile, looked up her results and while my cholesterol has been creeping up from 179 over the last several years, hers has dropped from 177 a few years ago and is now registering at 155.

At least my blood glucose levels were well within normal range (80, with normal range 70-105).
